Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy

The Canopus Foundation is a co-founder and German partner of the “Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy" (BASE). Its executive director, Dr. Peter W. Heller, was a member of the board of trustees of BASE from its establishment in 2001 until summer 2018. 

BASE promotes and facilitates investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency to advance market development for sustainable energy use and to contribute to global climate protection, poverty mitigation, and conflict prevention. 

From January 2001 to December 2005 Canopus served as the executing agency for “New Energy BASE”, a tri-national project which brings together enterprises, financing entities, and public and private organizations to promote sustainable energy use in the Upper Rhine region in France, Germany, and Switzerland. The European Commission provided the project with € 1.5 million in funding.
